I am

Dr. Sheneka Horne

I am the founder and creator of The Blk Doctor organization and the ‘Any Day Negotiator’ coaching program.

As early as residency, I understood that physicians were overworked and under appreciated. I did not know what options I had other than a full time position at a clinic or hospital. Instead, I pursued a fellowship in global health, hoping to find alternatives that would give me a fulfilling and balanced life. 

That did not happen.

I reached graduation and made that conscious decision to not job search because I was exhausted and couldn’t see myself signing up for 2-3 years of bondage (average contract length).
I had completed a pediatric residency and global health fellowship, and had no desire to commit to the exhaustion I observed from my attending.
So I also took a break for a few months.

That break and the locums work I took on after, led me to realize that physicians hate their jobs when they have no control over their time, or how they practice. 

I created a process that would allow me to consistently only work for places that would preserve the balance I was craving. 

My process includes how to vet a job, look for red flags by asking the right questions, ask for a competitive salary, and always have a way out in the event that location was not meeting my needs. 

Since fellowship graduation, I have never worked full time. Or done a 24 hour shift. Or a night shift.

Never again.

I take off 3-6 months a year and travel.

It is possible and sustainable. 

I feel so much better than I ever did in training.

Beyond my own story, other doctors have used my process to successfully achieve their own version of a dream career.

ALL black constituents in that county including the ones they do not treat.
